Introduction
Cult of the Lamb is a hybrid game between a Rouge-lite Dungeon Crawler and Base Builder Simulation game. The goal is to grow a following of cult members and rescue ‘The One Who Waits’.
There are plenty of mechanics and features to get used to in this game, so we have collated a list of 10 helpful tips to get you started in the best possible way (in no particular order).
Invest in Stone Mines and Lumber Yards Early
You will need lots and lots of lumber and stone for your cult buildings, such as prisons, the temple, and farms, so it is best to start investing in gathering these resources early in the game.
You’ll soon find yourself carrying out regular rituals which use them too, so invest early in the game, so you don’t find yourself short when you need the supplies.
Buy the Farming Bundle Upgrade
Progression in Cult of the Lamb is based on the size of your cult. Without enough food to feed your followers, you’ll find yourself with a rebellion on your hands rather quickly.
Purchasing the farming bundle upgrade will ensure you have enough food to feed your cult for a more extended period without worrying about starvation.
Keep Track of the Time (Day and Night)
Cult of the lamb has a day and night cycle. Therefore, time will pass regardless of what you choose to do with it, whether you’re going off on adventures or spending time nurturing your cult. This means you must plan carefully to get the most out of each day.
You can only preach to your followers once per day, so we recommend doing so at the start of the day before your adventure. That way, you won’t get back and find you missed your chance when the sun goes down.
Time does not stop while you are in the dungeon, so all your followers will still be performing their tasks.
Understand How Each Weapon Works
There are 5 different weapons for you to use in Cult of the Lamb which are:
- Swords
- Daggers
- Fists
- Axes
- Hammers
Each weapon has a different attack speed which completely changes the way you use them. On top of that, you can only deal decent damage with Fists on the last swing of the combo, changing the combat even more.
If you don’t like using a particular weapon, you must find opportunities to swap them out on your adventure so that you do not get stuck by a boss unexpectedly and lose your run.
Look Out For Challenge Modifiers
Upon entering a combat room, there is a chance for enemies in that room to have modifiers such as increased or decreased health/damage.
Enemies may have twice as much health, but may also deal less damage, and vice versa.
These modifiers may also affect what will drop from your chests too, so don’t get caught off guard.
Do Not Get Hit by Bosses to Get More Resources
If you avoid taking any basses after a boss or miniboss battle, you will get a multiplier to your resources which you can go home with. Eg, 30% more resources.
After going through multiple dungeon runs without taking any damage whatsoever, you can amass a considerable amount of resources in a short period of time.
However, you must practice your combat (mainly dodge) mechanics to ensure you can do this every time.
Deal with Sick Cultists Immediately
Cultists in your cult can get sick. Sometimes, you will get an alert that there is an illness in the camp, which you might think is not a huge issue, but you should deal with this as soon as possible before the illness spreads.
You must tell sick cultists to go to bed and clean up any mess. If you don’t, the illness can spread very quickly through the camp, which can cause devastation to your entire cult. Dead bodies and poop left in your camp can also spread disease, so ensure you manage your base correctly.
Another method is to remove or sacrifice the cult member infected with illness as a quick resolve.
Always Prioritize Sacrificing the Elderly
As awful as this sounds, it is always best to sacrifice elderly members of the cult because they will stop working on your farm and whittle down your food supply. When they get too old, they can die, leaving a dead body that can spread illness and disease around your base if left unattended.
Though the elderly will still grant you experience, it is always better to have working cult members alive in your cult.
Unlock the Resurrection Crown Offering
The resurrection crown offering is a beneficial upgrade as it will grant you an extra life per dungeon run when you die, which will not only be essential to end the game but will make your runs a lot easier and enjoyable.
Using this method, you must sacrifice a cult member (preferably elderly) each time you are brought back.
This is not much of a problem, however, because you will most likely die at a boss, and by defeating the boss you will earn a new follower anyway (Just make sure you kill the boss!).
Attack Campfires and Kill Birds to Get Meat
While going through the dungeon, we advise you to destroy campfires and kill any birds you see to obtain meat that you can cook back at your base.
Meat is much better than the other regular starting items that you can cook, which is very important for increasing follower loyalty or various other effects such as:
- Dropping valuable resources
- Reducing illness
- Increasing recovery from illness
Repeat Previous Dungeons for Rewards
Once you have completed a dungeon, you can go back to that dungeon from your camp, and it will loop continuously so that you can farm a vast amount of rewards.
You Can Move Planted Crops
If you ever mess up your crops’ placements while planning out your base, you can move them freely without salvaging the crops themselves.
This is incredibly useful when you have a busy base cult of cult members and buildings and don’t want to sacrifice precious food that will keep your cult members fed and happy.
How to Get Massive Monster Shrines
When you come across Rakshasa, hitting their lover repeatedly will engage you in a hidden miniboss fight. By defeating Rakshasa, you will continually earn a massive monster shrine as a reward.
