The Abandoned Ruins Guide – My Time at Sandrock

1. How to Access the Abandoned Ruins

You can only unlock the Abandoned Ruins by creating the crane lift for Rocky. This quest will appear at the very beginning of the game. Once you create and install it, you will get access to the Abandoned Ruins.

To access the Abandoned Ruins, you must pay a weekly fee to Rocky. As long as you have paid the cost, you can simply take the elevator down and find the Abandoned Ruins.

2. Level Selection

As you enter, you will get prompted with a screen showing 11 levels of the Abandoned Ruins, though, in the beginning, you can only access level 1. I will later explain how to access more levels.

Each level contains different materials that you can mine, with a few similar materials between each level. However, each level will have a unique material, so make sure you know what you are after before diving straight into the Ruins.

3. How to Find Materials

When you enter a level, you will find a building that has been completely covered in dirt, coupled with a tonne of resources lying around everywhere. Firstly you will find some copper veins as you enter the Ruins, but if you want to find more valuable materials, you must use your scanner.

Using the scanner, you can see golden icons on the ground. If you keep looking at them, they will sync so you can see the location of those icons without your binoculars. once you’ve scanned them with your binoculars, you can start digging with your pick hammer, and you’re going to find a lot of different items such as:

  • Organics
  • Engines
  • Old Parts

If you find yourself trapped, you can use the jet pack by holding the space bar to get out quickly.

4. How to Find the Next Level

Once you’ve mined everything, you need in the first level, scan and search for a green icon that will lead you to the next level. Dig your way through all the dirt, and you will eventually be able to access the path to the next level.

I recommend that you progress through each level as quickly as possible to access all the levels early on in the game. That way, when you want to go back to the Abandoned Ruins, you will have all levels unlocked, and you can gather the materials you need at any point.

However, you must be careful of any explosive barrels while you are mining in the Ruins as they can explode and damage you if you are not careful, but it shouldn’t be much of a problem if you are diligent.
