Enter the Gundeon is a straightforward game to pick up and play, but like many other games in the Bullet Hell genre, it takes a lot of time to master. On top of that, many things can significantly influence your run, so you need to ensure that you’re making the best decisions possible to increase your chance of conquering the dungeon!
Therefore, I have listed 18 tips and tricks that even beginners can use to help you easily get through the gungeon.
We will teach you the best ways to play Enter the Gungeon.

Increase Movement Speed Outside of Combat
It’s probably the most crucial tip I can give to save you time throughout your game. You can speed up your movement when out of combat by going to options gameplay and checking the increased speed out of combat option. Not only is it great when you need to move faster when there are no enemies around, but it will also indicate when the room you’re in is clear.
Just beware that if you enter an area with a pit right after going through a door or a trap a few steps ahead, you’ll fall on them unless your reflexes are on point.
Use Heck Blaster to Turn Cursed Enemies Back to Normal
The heck blaster will instantly turn jammed enemies back to normal upon getting shot by it, including bosses and mimics. If the game gets overwhelming, this is a good thing, but remember, jammed enemies drop more coins, so it’s up to you whether you want to play high-risk, high-reward, or play safe.
Switch Your Weapons to Reload Them
You don’t always have to reload your weapon to keep shooting. For example, suppose you have two weapons with relatively large magazines, the Hammer and the Luxing Cannon. You can empty the clip on one, switch to the other gun, empty that clip, and switch back to the last weapon. It will be reloaded and ready to shoot.
Tap Instead of Hold When Using Semi-automatics
Most semi-automatic weapons can be fired faster by tapping instead of holding the fire button. This is especially useful for bosses or challenging rooms where you must kill enemies quickly. Offense is defense here. Though it is always important to prioritize survival, if you can kill your enemies before you spend too much time avoiding a fight, firing faster can save your life.
Always Shoot Chests Before You Open Them
Always shoot the chests just once before opening them to ensure they’re not Mimics. The chest MUST finish its spawning animation before you shoot it, so don’t be too hasty. Otherwise, the chest may still be a mimic, but shooting it did nothing. If the chest is a Mimic, you will notice that it will move after a short while. Using a key on a mimic will consume it and damage you if you’re too close. Bear in mind that pedestals after defeating your boss can also be Mimics.
Flipping Tables Will Protect You From Damage
Flipping a table will create a mini blanket, protecting you from any type of damage whenever you flip a table during the animation. An invisible circular barrier will be made briefly where enemy bullets cannot pass through. Regardless of the direction you flip it from, it will still protect you. Throughout the flipping animation and during set animation, the table won’t decay from the bullets it blocks (it won’t protect you from explosions). The time frame might be small, but a well-planned table flip will save you from a tight situation.
You Can Stop Sliding on the Table by Pressing Dodge
You can stop sliding on the table by pressing the dodge button. Dodge rolling on a table will make you slide on it rapidly. If there’s a line of tables next to each other, you’ll slide through all of them while being able to shoot. However, it doesn’t make you immune to enemy fire, as you’re technically not in the air. Just know that dodge rolling while sliding on a table will break it instantly.
Use The Power of Knockback
Don’t underestimate the power of knockback. Whenever there’s a pit, there is an opportunity to instantly kill ground enemies by pushing them, especially jammed enemies. This doesn’t work on flying enemies.
However, there is one exception: the Shelleton falling on a pit won’t kill it; instead, he will respawn to the surface.
There are a few items that increase your gun knockback, which are:
- The Potion of Gun Friendship
- Heavy Bullets
- Fat Bullets
Many of the shotguns have higher knockback by default, but if you need a list of the fight guns with the most knockback, they are:
- T-shirt cannon
- Pog cannon
- Pulse cannon
- Cobalt hammer
- Casey (Baseball Bat)
High Dragun Boss Fight Tips
While fighting High Dragun, move to either corner on the bottom to avoid his fireball barrage, as the ones coming from your side will curve just enough that they won’t touch you. As for the one from the opposite side, you can either touch them or against the wall as you only take damage once you hit the ground.
If you have the Baby Good Mimic or Chicken Flute, stand behind them to avoid damage in phase 2. there is a slight chance a bullet slips through due to the erratic pattern in this phase, but once the pattern is set, sit back and relax.
Secret ‘Coolness Stat’ Which Reduces Your Cooldowns
There is a hidden stat called coolness. The higher it is, the faster the cooldown of your active items i. There are a total of 12 items that will increase this stat which are:
- Ballot (+3)
- Cigarettes (+1 per use)
- Heart of Ice (+1)
- Ice Cube (+3)
- Iron Coin (+2)
- Magic Sweet (+1)
- Old Goldie (+1)
- Orange (+2 per use)
- Rad Gun (+2)
- Shade’s Revolver (+3)
- Sixth Chamber (+2 per curse level)
- Sunglasses (+2)
Secret Curse Stat
There’s another hidden stat that will affect the difficulty of your round depending on how high it is. Every character starts with a curse level of zero. Then, there are a few actions the player can take to increase it.
Being cursed will cause some enemies to be jammed and turn red. The higher the curse level, the higher the chance of encountering a jammed enemy. Jammed enemies have more health, move faster, shoot faster, and deal contact damage if they initially don’t, and every hit will take one entire heart.
As for armor, it will only take one piece instead of two.
Killing a jammed enemy will drop more coins than usual. With that in mind, bosses can be jammed as well. The chance of encountering a jammed boss is:
- Curse level 7 or 8 = 20%
- Curse level 9 = 30%
- Curse level 10+ = 50%
The same curse rules apply to bosses as the regular jammed enemies.
Being cursed will also increase the odds of fighting mimics and chests with a fuse. the mimics can also be jammed, but the rewards will remain the same
Lord of the Jammed
At curse level 10, the Lord of the Jammed appears and starts chasing after you. He will swing his scythe and shoot 12 regular bullets in all directions. Luckily, unlike the Gun Reaper, he won’t block your shots and deal any contact damage, but he will terrify the shopkeeper and any merchant if he enters the area they’re in, making you unable to buy their items.
You have a small window of opportunity for the shopkeeper to buy his stuff before taking it off the shelves, but that’s not the case for the other merchants. The items will instantly be unavailable once he’s in the same room.
You can make him disappear by reducing your curse and entering the next chamber. To do this, you can either drop the items that increase it, drink from the cleansed shrine, or be lucky enough to roll cleansed on the dice shrine, which will remove up to 10 cursed levels.
You Can Steal From Shopkeepers and Merchants
You can steal from the shopkeeper or any merchant by using an active item or a gun that turns you invisible. A few items include:
- Box
- Directional Pad
- Chaff Grenade
- Charm Horn
- Decoy
Every time you steal an item, you gain one curse level. The first item is 100% guaranteed, the second will be 50%, and the third is 10%. You can only steal from a shopkeeper again if you don’t get caught.
Health That You Can’t Pick Up Can Be Saved for Later
When your health is full, you can collect the health back from the containers located at the store or the elevator to the next floor. However, this will not move from floor to floor, so you must always use your remaining health on the same floor.
Do Not Shoot Bullets in the Shop
Never shoot in the shop unless you see the clown mask, the drill, or the loot bag for sale. These items cost 9999 coins. The only way to unlock those is by either stealing or angering the shopkeeper by leaving and coming back to claim them. Unfortunately, it is impossible to obtain 9999 coins in this game.
Use Your Blanks
Don’t be afraid of using your blanks, as they will be replenished on every floor if you have less than 2 left. Gamers are stubborn and want to save all their resources when they desperately need them, but most people will find that their items will never get used, so use them!
Hegemony Credits and Coins Are Collected on Exit
Coins and hegemony credits, AKA the green money you can spend at the breach, will automatically be picked up upon leaving the room, even if some fall into pits.
You Can Roll Barrels
Rolling a barrel will leave a trail of whatever it contains, except for explosive barrels. Rolling on top of an explosive barrel will destroy it without blowing it up, but it won’t do a thing on the other ones. Instead, they will stop you dead in your tracks.
Equip the Ration when Playing as Pilot
When playing Pilot, have the ration as a selected active item to avoid death; otherwise, it won’t restore your health upon dying. I can’t tell you the number of times I have forgotten to select it, and my run has ended because of it.
