This guide will teach you how to fish in My Time at Sandrock. Fishing isn’t very difficult but there are mechanics that you should be aware of before you get started.
1. How to get a sand trap
We will start off with a basic sandfish trap that you can make after completing a small quest for Owen. Owen will give you this quest in the Blue Moon Saloon restaurant to obtain some sand carp. You will take the sand carp and build your own sand trap at your assembly bench.
2. How to Get Fishing Bait
Now you have your sand trap, you will need to collect some bait from the sand worms that are popping up in the desert. Alternatively, you can buy these at the ranch store if you want to get some bait quickly. Once you have your bait, go to one of the available fishing spots indicated on the map as giant little circles of sand.
Stand in front of the circle of sand and interact with it when the sandfish indicator pops up. You will then zoom in to the area and see fish swimming around in the sand frantically. You can attempt to catch the fish this way by releasing your sand trap with good timing, but it is much easier to use bait.
To catch the fish stop, you need to make them stop by throwing some bait down on the sand. As the fish touches the bait, it will stop in place. You then need to aim the circle of the sand trap around the fish that has stopped.
If you have aimed your sand trap correctly, the fish will have a blue outline around it and you should immediately release your sand trap to catch the fish.
